I figured I'd turn this out into the community so that people will work on it, and possibly make it a competition.

(I will enter in that case)

Anyhow, pretty much, the reward if you make a winning texture is a pull request into the main game, thats all I can offer.

After about a week, I will post a poll for all of y'all to vote on the entries.

(My Entry: Junglewood)

Well I made a great Texture but like add it later time though.

All I have is PixelBox.

It would be nice to have in-game screenshots of the textures. Here are the current textures:

And here is my idea for the competetion:

Compare with default wood

I like the 'old' jungle tree textures. The white-brown tree is very decorative. I'm not in favor changing the texture (to something more realistic?).

VanessaE's moretrees mod should keep the old jungle tree textures. If improvements can be made to the base game, then they should be made.

I am not participating but I will surely add my own textures in my pack soon.

Sapling:

It would be a nice thing if jungletrees when they grow also spawn junglegrass (and junglegrass growing on top of the trunks).

I vote for this sapling texture and I agree with jungle grass appearing near spawned jungle trees.

I didnt see your textures, unless you meant default, which isnt getting voted on because it is already the default and will stay if the winner of this competition is not preferred.

For the trunk of the jungle trees, I am thinking of something similar to the default texture, but with the final result being prettier. The black spots could be brown like a vine, the green spots could be a more lush green, and the white spots could be a little darker.

I think a lighter texture suits the junglewood.

That looks good! Can you tweak it a bit more so that it differs a bit more from the default wood? Also leaves and saplings are needed.

The current version (or at least that from some days ago) had very dark wood as junglewood planks plus the decorative jungletree trunks. That looks very well and offers a darker material that can be combined well for building (i.e. normal wood plus junglewood to have a contrast). Some of the suggested textures look very nice on their own (e.g. that of Splizard), but do not offer much contrast to the "normal" wood. I'd like to see those rather in moretrees than in the default game. The default game can profit more from wood with a bit of contrast. Adding a simple craft to darken normal wood so that it looks like current jungletree planks would be ok as well. And the current jungletree thrunk could be kept for the roots of trees.

Those are nice textures, Splizard. Casimir's leaves texture and your textures would go well together.
