paint.net, I need to use alpha transparency for a model I'm making

Sorry, there isn't a version of paint.net for my operating system, so I can't try it and find out how to add transparency.. I'll have to let someone else answer this.

Sorry, as best as I can tell, what you are after is not possible. I tried to do that with nodes before. Minetest doesn't like partially transparent pixels.

on paint.net, you use eraser to make stuff transparent

Gimp->Layer->Transparency->Add Alpha Channel then
Gimp->Layer->Transparency->Color to Alpha {Defaults to white}

no, minetest doesn't support texture transparency with alpha, which SAWKSZSZSZSZ$$$Z

Ehm... Minetest does support alpha channel in textures.

Ehm... Minetest does support alpha channel in textures.
Overlayed with ^ - yes. Single - no.
Just try to make a dirt with 80% opacity and you'll notice it's not partially transparent. Then reduce opacity to 20% and the block will gone.

Except as part of a 2d sprite - I have seen alpha working properly in the old 2d player sprites, for example.
