CBOX Realm of Blocks

by CNMustang » Fri Apr 12, 2013 23:44

Minetest is free and open-source, right?

Well, I want to make a pay for game like Minecraft cause the Moderators for the forum for the MC game itself are being (in my opinion) Jerks.

So I want to make a game called Realm Of Blocks, but to make the trial version, could I modify the game after downloading, and present it to the Minetest forums for Approval, or do I need a license first? Is it copywrighted?

If approved, then I would put it on the Forums for Minecraft to see what they think of the game.
Then have a site for the game to be payed for and downloaded.

What is your opinion on this? If no, then I need a site that can has a reference guide on how to program in java that is free, and printable.

... The source of Minetest is released under GPL. Art/media is released under CC-by-SA. If you modify the source, or include images from base minetest, you must either provide a download for modified source, or link to the included (minetest) image.

My two cents: nobody will make money by trying to sell a "modpack". Sell server access instead. Go MMO.

Minetest is LGPL, not GPL.

... Same difference. Basically, modified source(!) and source must be provided (except for whatever custom thing you write and plug in. But modifications to source do not count).

I think you can make a game for minetest and make people pay for it.
That way, all assets for your game could be under a proprietary license, but the engine will stay open source, much like quake... But then you mustn't use anything from the default mods/game, so good luck !
I'll quote tinoesroho:

I made a few (a lot of?) mods for minetest: here is a list.
See also the MT-Faithful texture pack (work in progress).
