FOSS gamedev and creative worlds

If someone could help me with this I would GREATLY appreciate it.

I downloaded one of the mods here but I couldnt get it to work, also avast detected a corrupt zip file afterwards.

Could someone please make a step by step guide to how to use mods, iit as simple as putting the file in the mod folder? Also is there anyway to get light in the form of anything in the original game without a mod? I just need torches basically.

1)unzip mod
2)put it in mod folder under minetest/mods/minetest/put here
3)enjoy
4)tell us what mod you want to play

The default mod has a torch.
Just create a new world with the game 'minetest', 'build', or 'survival' and you can craft a torch with coal and a stick.

N=nothing
C=coal
S=stick

NNN
NCN
NSN

When you say create a new world with the game minetest do you mean put that in the name of the world? Also how to I combine them? Thank alooot you guys im really sorry for not being as computer savvy as you guys.

When you create a new world, underneath the field for the name there should be a list of games. Select "Minetest". You can name the world whatever you want.

How do you mix elements? Also, can someone point me to the mods or tell me if the original game has glass?

Mix elements? You can craft stuff, see this page. Also, the default game has glass: smelt sand.
