Hello everyone,
I've just stumbled over the Minetest Facebook page and recognized, that the last official entry was in 2012. Though I am not one of those Facebook fanatics, I know that there are a lot of potentially active gamers around. Seeing a thriving community will attract new players way easier than seeing a dead page.
It's just a suggestion to maybe post a few news there every once in a while. News about new features, mods, special server events and maybe even a "Screenshot of the Week/Month".

Good luck :p You're talking to a community that believes facebook and google are evil, and think their emails are safer from peering eyes on russian servers lol
[edit]
Someone asked me for clarification so i'll post it here. I think most countries probably spy on their citizens (and servers), even Zimbabwe. Hopefully no one got too offended.

Yep.

No, I think that the internet is generally unsafe, but avoiding services like facebook that force/tempt the user to give their personal information away is a good thing.

People do so willingly. When they'll be forced to give their info, then we can talk about evil. Whatever happened to personal responsibility?

The facebook terms of use force their user to give their real information when signing in.

And porn websites ask that you be 18 before entering, but I doubt many teenagers are honest about that either.

It's not some people in blue are going to come to your house, is it?
(They're probably not called the Facebook Police. I bet.)

I also think that the Facebook page needs more content and traffic. If people want (and if it's possible), I'd like to be some kind of "author" on it... :)

The Google+ Community for Minetest is often active with "neckbeards", but, who knows; G+ might have been a better place than FB. Only time will tell.
And, really, anytime someone tries to promote Minetest, the MC Army appears and basically destroys the page with bullshit.

You mean
this one? It would be great to have more activity there.

Diaspora > Facebook
Decentralized, no corporate spying, not required to use your real name. Pages can't be created for things like games and stuff, but that's because it automatically groups posts together by hashtags, so there's no need for that.

I don't have a neckbeard...
In any case, Facebook is your necessary evil. More gamers equal more potential development, and more of that equals the fact that we'll get out of the lousy beta faster

This is the most severely accurate thing ever said.
Note: That was an obvious exaggeration

Does anyone think Facebook might be about to die? I don't pay attention to it (since I don't use it), but I heard that some people feel that this is the case.

If it dies, there will be another to take its place anyway :/

MineCraft developer is calling it quits and coming to join the Minetest team... that is how likely it is that Facebook is going to die any time soon.
I would always say more exposure is better, in the context of an open source project but that's just my opinion.

This topic shouldn't turn into a discussion about facebook...
I think we should really bring some more life to the/a facebook page. If we can't find out who made the current facebook page, we need to create a new one. I really like the idea of putting some Minetest related stuff on facebook and I also wish to contribute to the/a facebook page. Maybe together with some other community members? Who else would be interested?

I agree, it would be nice to see a solid presence on Facebook. Just because the mods and dev team don't like Facebook doesn't mean it's not a valid promotional tool. Obviously the forums will always be the number one source for information about Minetest.

I think it is a great idea to get it going again, and to have some people start making some youtube videos. (aside from chainlynx) I think are community is kind of secluded, and we are not getting very many new people at all. I'd love to see minetest have an active community on other sites as well.

Grat to hear that I'm not the only person wanting to bring Minetest back to Facebook! I'll start a new facebook page. Pls send a PM with your Facebook names, so I can give you some rights on the page :)

I actually don't have a facebook, and I really don't want one. However, is it possible to have multiple people managing a single facebook page?

Wouldn't it be better to try to revive the old one (the one originally referred to). Can we not find out who set that up? It's confusing for users if they happen to find 20 different Minetest pages, which one do they follow? All of them I guess. *shrugs*. I guess knock yourself out. Kudos to you for stepping up.

What about the youtube channel that has the basic tutorial? That hasn't had new videos in a year or so.
