Let me get something straight - Minetest is not Minecraft. Yes, people do make Minecraft-like mods on Minetest, which is fine. But it's just that many people say Minetest is Minecraft.

Minetest is a open source program inspired by Infiniminer, but mostly by Minecraft. Modding is really easy in Minetest, so this differs from Minecraft's annoying modding. Its really easy to register a node, unlike Minecraft.

About Sam, the 3d Character of Minetest. I saw some posts about Sam, and it's phrase was 'Sam Ain't Minecraft'. A player assumed this in IRC (I think).

It's just that, people always make a fuss about like 'Minetest is the worst game in the world, since it's copying Minecraft'.

Lay this one to rest :P In the past two years i've seen plenty of moves to emulate MCs' gameplay, and every once in a while everyone chants in unison that we are not copying MC, even though it's plainly obvious that we are. None of my guests could even tell the difference, and I rarely have the energy to explain that our obsidian recipe is different :P

Minetest is written in C++ while Minecraft is written in Java.
Minetest has a modding api, while Minecraft does not.

While Minetest is a Minecraft clone, it is based on early Minecraft gameplay. Minetest focuses more on science, while Minecraft focuses on magic.

There you have it.

I agree. I fell ready to close very topic that comes up with this. So many saying the same thing.
Now for my thoughts. Minevraft will always be a better, more complete game than minetest art any point in the future unless minetest gets all the little things done and makes minetest_game more like a game and less like a test run(minimal game).

Minecraft is always going to be more complete. Eventually, the Minetest-engine and minetest_game will have matured enough to allow devs to focus on creating a new fork of minetest_game, possibly steampunk themed.* We're about two years from that point, however. Until then, Minecraft will be the standard survival, voxel-based game.

* Because Steampunk is awesome.

In a steam punk universe, internal combustion engines - like those in cars - never happened. Instead, the world got more efficient steam engines, and analog mechanisms became smaller. I imagine gigantic robots, better vehicles- basically, like the Roman Empire era, except with vehicles.

I did not say MT was not a clone of MC, I was just making a small joke.

I was like this when I started too general. You'll get used to the Minetest experience soon. :)
