I am a fairly decent linux user, however I have just installed the latest version of crunchbang, and I am not sure how to go about getting the latest version of minetest. I have tried using the github, however I can only seem to get version 3.1 to install... which it works fine, however gives me mod name errors... I am really into this game now, have been playing on ubuntu for a couple of months now and really enjoy it, I am getting ready to make the move to crunhbang as my main os, but would really like to be able to play the latest version on it first... I am not really looking for someone to hold may hand through this, just a point in the right direction would be great, then if I need any help I will be sure to ask... thanks in advance

I figured it out..... Blessings

I was going to say "Compile?" but it looks like you've sorted it out. 0.3.1 doesn't support mods (boo), so that was a chase after a phantom. Compiling is the best way to ensure you have the latest and greatest Minetest experience. :-)

yes that is what I did... I missed crunchbang, haven't used it since the version 9 .... I am digging minetest (no pun intended) on crunchbang.... seems to run smoother then ubuntu, or winblows....

the only thing I had to do was add a Worlds folder, for some reason when I compiled it there was no folder named worlds... took me a few to realize why I could not create a new world... lmao someone might want to add that into the compile instructions.... Again Thanks to the developers and all you guys and gals that have made this game awesome.... my nephew was playing minecraft and it looked interesting, so I did some searching and found the cheap bastard version.... which fits me perfect...., anyway thanks again....

The worlds folder should be created when you create a new world.

I tried like 4 times, with no luck... then I manually made the folder and tried to create a new world and it worked.... not sure why it didn't work.. I know that you know what you are doing, PilzAdam, your forum comments have helped me tremendously in the last couple months I have been figuring out this game.... just saying what happened to me.... It could have been that I did not run the game under root, but I am cool with that, since I do not use root unless absolutely needed, and will not use root for a game...

Is it a run in place build or not? That might have something to do with it. Also, you are right. Under no circumstances should you run a program as root.

The usual guess when things like this happen is file access issues. Is the folder where the world-folder is created owned by the user that runs the program?
