[Need clarification] Bump Mapping

by philipbenr » Sat Oct 12, 2013 03:57

Hey all;

So I've been looking around on the forums, and I found RealBadAngel's Post about new shaders that have bumpmapping support. I was like 'holy crap, that looks awesome.' So I looked into it. I heard something about how you did it and that you needed 2 files. 1 texture and 1 reference I believe. So the reference is supposed to be red and blue with blue being low spots and red being high spots. So I think that this is true, but I'm not quite sure...

Verify true/false?

You need to enable bumpmapping and shaders in minetest.conf and have a texture pack that has normalmaps in addition to the textures.
There is a script in util/ that automatically creates normalmaps for textures: https://github.com/minetest/minetest/blob/master/util/generate-texture-normals.sh
