On Minetest Textures... [Poll]

by philipbenr » Sat Nov 02, 2013 21:37

This is a place for all unhappy people who are really annoyed with some textures. I have seen another post about papyrus, and now I'm starting one about bricks.

I do not like the new texture because it does not tile well like the original. If you check in-game how it looks you will see what I mean.
I'm creating MineClone 2, a Minecraft clone for Minetest.
I made the Help modpack, adding in-game help to Minetest.

Hmm, The first and third row of bricks in the texture (from the top) have two long bricks. This means that if you stack two of them side by side, you'll get about 0.5+1+.0.5=2 bricks on the first and third line, but 0.5+1+1+1+0.5=4 bricks on the second and third. That looks weird.

I suggest you use the old layout for the brick placement.
7:42 PM - Bauglio: I think if you go to staples you could steal firmware from a fax machine that would run better than win10 does on any platform
7:42 PM - Bauglio: so fudge the stable build
7:43 PM - Bauglio: get the staple build

Seeing larger walls or an entire building with this new texture might help. In general, I'm comftable with the current brick texture. The older one was too bright. Coloredbricks also has some very nice brick textures.
A list of my mods can be found here.

Tiling is a very pesky thing. While blocks may look good with some textures the stairs may look strange example: The original brick texture in my texture pack.
Sometimes, it's harder to think up a mod than it is to create it.

Yes, I apologize. That wasn't the final, I am working on a final texture. Edit, heck here is the layout:

it is a better textured set of bricks.

I would like to add this texture to Minetest+. What's the license?
