How would I do that? (Sorry, my minetest know-how is limited, to an extent at which I could be named a n00b)

Thanks for the quick reply by the way! :)

.rar is not a minetest file format,

its a archiving file format, ie.: you need a tool to extract the files and place the resulting files into the correct directories

look the internet for winrar, extract the files (preserving directories) to the \mods directory of your minetest instalation.

or, if you are using the latest version of the game, download the files from the ingame mod download system.

No, no, no. If you're a Windows user, use 7-zip and nothing else. If you're on OS X, use The Unarchiver. If you're on any other system, use unar (command-line version of The Unarchiver) for RAR files and whatever archiver you got with the OS for everything else.

RAR files really ought to be banned from places like this all across the Internet; it needs to die already. There is no reason to use RAR (7z has better compression and 7-zip is better than WinRAR), and a very good reason not to use it (lack of free/libre software support); yet people still use it. I haven't the slightest idea why.

WinRAR is also shareware, which means you'll get nag screens on a regular basis if you don't buy it. 7-zip can extract .rar files just fine and does not cost anything.

Softonic installers usually install useless crap.
