FOSS gamedev and creative worlds

My step-brother and I like to play on each other worlds over LAN, one day I said something about changing my skin, so I was wondering if there is a way to do this without any extra plugins or anything?

I see that the player skin is in ~/.minetest/cache/media
I was just wondering if I replace that file will it change my skin in LAN?

No, you need to add a mod for that (player_textures or skins mod).

I found it in minetest/games/minetest_game/mods/default/models/ I think that is the proper place, just saying
