Forum PMs: More visible notifications?

Why does this forum software not have an indicator for the number of unread PMs in bright red like pretty much every other forum?

At the moment, "PM" in the corner simply turns bold if there are unread messages, which is so subtle it can easily be overlooked completely. This can be a real problem if you PM people who do not expect PMs or do not know how they work.

Could this be changed please? Thanks.

That is a good point i have been thinking the same thing for a while but was waiting for someone else to mention it.

Yes, I often overlook them mainly because they're unnoticeable. I only notice it when I'm expecting a PM, if not it's an oversight.

I missed an invite to become a moderator because of this.

Replied to a PM too late :P

vBulletin has what's probably the best way of doing this. The first time you show up at the site after getting a PM, you get a Javascript "confirm" dialog allowing you to press "OK" to view it or "Cancel" to not view it.

Not everybody/browser does like JavaScript, so there must be another way, like

[h]You've got a new PM! Read it here![/h]

There is actually a Extension which has been made for this, installing it would be handy as then we could see more clearly when there is a new message. You can view it here: http://punbb.informer.com/forums/post/143698/#p143698
It looks like this:

Yep. If there are any other Admins, I haven't seen 'em. And I've been lurking here for a year.

Also, yes, PMs should have better notifiers. Overlooked messages several times because of this.
