I made an example of a new GUI, it's just a mockup.
I don't know if it's technically possible to have tabs on the right with basic GUI in Irrlicht but i think it's cool. :)

An idea: Animated clouds in background.

Nice. Background can be a view of the default local world from some point.

for this you must
already be connected to any server

If it doesn't exist because you play only on servers, create it.

Why generate a world, perhaps it's nice with a simple scene, no? And less complicated for devs. :)

If you have a world, you can get different views every time you launch a game.

and +1 for the gui..maybe it should just render the clouds for now to see how it can handle instantly generating it? anyways that looks cool :)

It's great, but needs to be vector (if it's raster now, I didn't look inside) to fit any resolution.

And I think in-game HUD should look the same. Or include it in the texturepack.

I don't think the scalable property of .svg files is useful in this case. It just need to fix the width/height correctly and there is no deformation when you change resolution. (like the actual GUI)
And i don't know how to use inkscape ... :(

Yes, my mistake. The menu needs no resize, it will be just moved to the center of the window.

Finally tabs on top or bottom are better, because we gain a lot of spaces to add some others menus in the future like "chat config" (colors, system message, etc) or a mod integration menu. And in the basic irrlicht GUI API there is only two alignements for tabs: lower and upper. So i must remake another mockup. :)

I think it's better!

Now i must to start to learn how GUI work in irrlicht because i'm not a coder ... or perhaps a nice developer see this topic and like this GUI. :D
I can send source, and all cutted parts if someone is interrested to play with it.

@Raiden: you last screenshot lacks 'minetest-c55' title. Maybe make game icon on the left and title on the right?

Green is natural and neutral to human psychic.

I've been driving a green car for some time so I do like green in general but I still think it's too green. But it's only my opinion I might be wrong.
