K thanx.

I tried the 128px on my Win 7 gaming pc last night. It's looks really great. Thank you for everyone's efforts who works
on this. I have always been very dissapointed with Mintest's performance on Win 7 as it could barely manage 40FPS on my strong GTX 760 card.
When I use your 128px pack though , it reaches 80 to 90fps. This was a pleasant surprise ! :) Not only does it look great , but it doubles the performance of minetest on my specific hardware :)

Only thing I noticed , it's only the default stuff that changed. None of the mods , even the ones listed seem to have the new textures.

Today gonna test them on my Ubuntu pc and see how Ubuntu handles the 128px.

Thank you for the great work ! ;)

EDIT: I can't get the Ubuntu version of minetest to see the texture packs.
in /usr/share/minetest/textures I created two folders. One for 64px and one for 128px.
I extracted the relevant zips into those two folders.
But when I open minetest and go to "texture packs" it doesn't see either one of them.

Anybody know how to install these textures on Ubuntu please ?

I get ~15 FPS on my AMD A10 (6800K) APU with 512px on DreamBuilder.

( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) ( ͡o ͜ʖ ͡o) [$ ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) $] ( ͡$ ͜ʖ ͡$) ヽ༼ຈل͜ຈ༽ノ

My image and media server is back online and is functioning as normal.

Hi Marshall_maz,

when I'm at a friend who uses Xubuntu I found that I have to create a textures folder with this path: /home/xanthin/.minetest/textures/ and extract the textures zip there. This ".minetest" means that it is a hidden folder so I had to enable "view hidden folders". Now the textures are available in the minetest textures tab.
Maybe that can help you?

I'll look into that thanx.

But I got it working by adding the "texture_path=" setting in my minetest.conf , so I am sorted for now thanx.

If you're only seeing the default stuff being changed, it's because you installed one of the "default stuff only" packs. :-) Download a full release pack from one of the Github links on the first post.

Aah , my bad. I see now in the brackets the two different packs sorry.

Installed the one with mod support now and works perfect.
Thank you , it looks great and I am so happy about the improved FPS these textures gives me :)

Just tried out the 64 px pack, it looks good and doesn't lag me in single player, although the fist could be rotated a bit to have it aimed forward, I also noticed that the roof shingles from your Home Decor pack don't have similer textures yet.

Plus here are more mods to consider adding to the pack:

  • [Mod] Charcoal [charcoal] from AnFiadhChu
  • [Mod] Torches [1.3.2] [torches] from BlockMen
  • [Mod] Birthstones [birthstones] from Doc
  • [Mod] Beds [beds] from PilzAdam

Small-ish update: All picks 64px and up got new handle textures. Affects all texture pack releases and all supported games (as long as I didn't miss anything).

Hi VanessaE , I have a bug/problem with the 64px. A lot of the wools , including white wool has no texture at all.
First it was garbled texture , then I downloaded the latest 64px fron GIT and now it has no texture at all.

Server is 0.4.10 64bit stable runnig Dreambuilder game ( updated last night ) with no additional mods.
Client ( where problem is ) is Win 7 64bit. Minetest 0.4.10 stable 64bit using 64px downloaded a few minutes ago.

I wanted to take a screenshot of the problem but F12 don't work while inventory is open and the prntscrn to paste in paint also don't want to work.

Any idea how to fix this problem ?

My best guess is lack of RAM - maybe you just don't have enough, or perhaps just not enough video RAM in particular.

I can't help you with the screenshot issue, as that's a Windows thing. I only use Linux here (taking a screenshot offers to save, upload, open in a program...)

I doubt it. System RAM is 16gig , Video Ram is 4gig GDDR 5. ( Geforce GTX760 )
And I have played with this texture packs for weeks now without a problem. Only started today.
I tried clearing the /cache/media on the client. That didn't help.
Then tried the 128px , that one has garbled texture. Also only on the wools , nothing else.

I'm going to connect with my Ubuntu laptop now to see if the problem is specific to the Win 7 pc.

EDIT: My Ubuntu client is fine. So this is specific to Win 7. Maybe someone that also play on Win 7 can point me in the right direction how to solve this problem. ( No software was added today , no graphics driver updates or changes was done , no graphic settings was changed in game )

EDIT 2: I solved this problem by disabling the " preload visual items " option in the settings. With that setting disabled the wool textures is fine.

I don't have any issues with the 64px texture pack on my Windows 7 based laptop, and it only has 4GB RAM and 1GB video RAM.

Try that set for a while and see if you still get issues, also another thing I do is that I run Minetest with Game Booster.

Game Booster is free software you can get that shuts down unnecessary programs to free up system resources for running games, you can even configure it to keep certain things running if you need them.

Vanessa how do you use the inventory background images in your texture packs?
They dont seem to load on their own; Do I need a specific mod to utilize them?

I have tried moving them to textures/pack/base and even into the game/mods/default/textures
folders but it still doesnt work.

They look really cool.

It depends on whether the game you are using adds its own custom background images or not. Mintest game does add its own background images, so it is texturable.

Yeah I picked up on that ,but I was lookin for the "how" part.

and dont be confused,I am not asking about the 'game' background and logo images she includes....
I am refering to the background images for player inventory, furnace inventory, and chest inventory

They look like Hubble images and are very nice.

Thanks anyways Evergreen ;)

Indeed those are HST pictures. They're used by the formspecs in some of Dreambuilder's mods. What's the filename that minetest_game uses for its background images? I could include/copy something for those also.

well for the default inventory background you name your custom image to ".\games\minetest_game\mods\default\textures\gui_formbg.png"

I havent figured out the others :(

3-D armor background is ".\games\minetest_game\mods\3d_armor\textures\3d_armor_ui_form.png"

VanessaE, do you plan to add skybox textures to this? Since this is an HD texture pack, an HD sky would fit well.

At some point I might, but that also depends on there being some sort of "standard" mod that enables them. I've not followed that too closely so I'm not sure what's available in that department.

Also, someone will have to explain to me just how the hell they work, too. :-)

A skybox is literally a cube with sides that are enormously far away which forms the sky, and in which the you and your Minetest world are placed. If you fly up high enough so that you can no longer see any land and then look down, you can still see a slightly darker square below you. That's the bottom of the skybox.

There is no "default" set of textures that the skybox can take - you have to use a mod to set its properties, and no such mod is included with the engine or the standard game - so it just transitions in software between blue in the day and black-with-simulated-stars at night. That's why HDX doesn't have any textures for it yet.

Very impressive work ! Now 3406 textures ! How can you make such an amount of pictures ?
This texture pack with Dreambuilder really shows the potential of the game.

I've been working on the pack for the past two years, just adding to it, refining things, etc as time permits. As one character in one of our movies said in response to a similar question, "I have a tiny talent and an enormous amount of free time." :-)

(And I STILL need to fix that damn wield hand)

Not really, not without turning it into what amounts to a plain, solid color.
