what tools are recomended for making texturepacks?

hello i've been triyin to figure out how to make texturepacks but i'm new to this and i need to get pointed towards the right way i have some themes i want to try out so i hope i get some help here thank you :) (if this is in the wrong place feel free to delete or move)

I think this should me in a, topic on the Texture packs...
Anyway You need, a software allows Alpha Channel since that what makes, the clear color, not the box white color, so theres gimp and paint.net I think it was, and photoshop.
I use GIMP since it free.

i went with gimp for now started making a new texture pack but that's for another thread :) thanks for the sugestions :)

Just create a bunch of seamless textures (look at other people's texture packs). That's all.
