ok when i make/convert a texture pack i always have trouble with the grass sides if i make the grass_side.png dirt and grass it makes a wierd distorted half transparent grass side in-game if i do JUST the grass side with out dirt the side of the grass in-game is the dirt texture without grass. can someone tell me what i'm doing wrong?

The grass_side.png is applied on top of the dirt.png textures for the grass sides. This means you should not apply the grass side texture on top of the dirt texture for the grass_side.png, just the side grass. Keep in mind you need to color it if you're converting a pack from Minecraft (which has biome colored grass).
