[Help] Supporting Mods, Characters, Animations + Folders. :D

by AM35502 » Sat Jul 27, 2013 15:21

[This is my second post].
I am planning on making a texture pack here, but I am very new to this. I have a few of questions for anyone who can help to answer.

FIRST QUESTION:
So I have quite a few mods which I'd like to support in my texture pack, but I was wondering when, I make a texture for it, if I should make the download in a separate folder... Or include it in my original download, if so, I was just wondering where to keep, it a separate folder from all of the textures or... Where? :P

SECOND QUESTION:
I have seen in a lot of different texture packs that the characters are usually made 3D with a special type of placing in the image. I was just wondering how do I know where to place different parts of the image. If you are feeling generous today and would like to help (I will give you credit :D), then please enter in a cartoonish character of some sorts. You will be included in the in the first (and last :P) post :).

THIRD QUESTION:
Since minetest has animations (water, lava etc.), I was just wondering how to place them in the image, so in-game it will move. I would really appreciate it because I cannot make a [finished] texture pack without having this[ese].

FOURTH QUESTION:
Sorry for making so many questions .-., well anyways, I know texture packs have different files in them. First of, I was wondering where/how to get the inuit.la (I know, I am such a beginner :P), and I was also wondering if I needed licenses for texture packs, and if so, how/where can I get them (I know, I know ;)). I am perfectly clear on the textures and [maybe] 'depends' folder.

Thank you so much if you help.
I am perfectly aware that I do not know much about this, so please don't start teasing :P.
(If you are feeling considerate today, you can make animations/items/characters/anything in minetest and give me a download link to it. I will give you clear credit... On one condition: It Is Cartoonish :P)

First question:

Just keep the name of the textures from the mod, and put them with the rest of the textures.

Second question:

Use this template for the actual skin:

Use this for guidance:

Third question:

Just make each separate texture, and stack them on top of each other in the order you want them to be animated. (in an image editor)

Fourth Question:

You do not need an init.lua or a depends.txt file for texture packs. Also use .png images for the textures. As for the license, just pick a open source license, my favorite being creative commons. Go to their website for more information. link

Thanks for the tips/answers. They are very useful. Will get to work with all the characters soon. I am starting on the blocks first. :) Sorry I had to take out some of the words due to errors.
