I don't actually know the difference between the old and new texture packs!!!
I tested it with FamousCraft (A fairly new texture pack) (I cannot find it on planetminecraft now!)
And as for windows, I think you may want to look at
this

This converts resource packs to minetest texture packs, works too; nicely done!

A resource pack is just the new name for a texture pack, 'cos they can have sounds too.
This texture pack converter does not do sounds.

yea, I was just noting that because the old texture packs were a single tiled image

see
the readme Get minecraft texture pack.
Get "assets" folder from minecraft texture pack.
Move "mc-to-mt-tp-conv" folder to folder with assets folder
Run "conv.sh" (it is inside "mc-to-mt-tp-conv" folder)
The folder "minetest-texture-pack" will be made.
"minetest-texture-pack" is the converted texture pack.

I had it working at one time with a separate command I ran in win-bash but I cannot find the command and all this does is make three folders all of which are empty and the cmd window says cannot stat then disappears so I didn't let the code run the whole way I just clicked quick to pause and take a screenshot in about three more seconds while keeping it paused it still disappears. but here is the main error.

Here's a bit fixed script:
Your phone or window isn't wide enough to display the code box. If it's a phone, try rotating it to landscape mode.
- Code: Select all
#!/bin/bash
#cd "$(dirname "$0")"
#cd ..
rm -rf minetest-texture-pack
rm -rf uctextures
mkdir textures
mkdir uctextures
cd uctextures
mkdir b
mkdir i
cd ..
FILES=$(dirname "$0")/../assets/minecraft/textures/blocks/*.png
for f in $FILES
do
cp $f "uctextures/b/"
done
FILES=$(dirname "$0")/../assets/minecraft/textures/items/*.png
for f in $FILES
do
cp $f "uctextures/i/"
done
cd uctextures
while read p; do
if [ -n "$p" ]
then
if [ -e "trans.png" ]
then
mv trans.png "../textures/$p"
else
mv "$p" trans.png

done < ../transtable.txt

Nice!!!
But I think you made a small mistake:
the normal sapling isnĀ“t converted, because the spelling in the .bat file is saping.

Due to the problems with running this on windows, I might just rewrite this in Java. Therefore, cross-platform.
