I would like to know what texture pack you think would fit as the default textures of Minetest.

It must be mostly 16x16, because it will be stored in the main source repository and file size must be minimal.

Suggest 1 or 2 texture packs, and tell why do you think it/they would be good.

This topic is strictly for voting. If you want to discuss more freely about the subject (eg. to debate how it should be chosen), create an another topic on the forum (or if somebody else already created it, discuss there).

Default, as it is.

It's simple, clean and mostly "neutral" in terms of welcoming new players.

Default. User can always choose any other texture pack, it's not difficult at all.

2nd one I suggest is cisoun's TP. It's the most complete pack for 0.4 of all for now. But I'll use it anyways, so I don't mind if default one would be other.

Thanks xyz for the link .... You helped me to remember where I did catch the textures for redcrab's server ... :)

Right , but the issue is not about difficulties , but to have a common nice enough base gfx ..

For non-good-artist modders it become the gfx guideline..

it become easier for lamda first mod release to have a default nice enough specific mod textures.

Jordach's Texture pack! maybe touched up a Tad but I like it

Almost MC texture pack

Cisoun's is my favorite, I also like Almost MC.

Mostly i like cisoun's tex-pack.

I suggest to use my Adventure Pack partly or completely.

default, player or server admin can choose any texture pack with two cp commands.

Cisoun's or almost mc. My two favorites (next to the update for mine:P)

if something else, i would like a different style then minecraft to show that minetest is not only a simple clone of MC

anyway its easy to choose other textures in minetest, its much easier to replace them then in MC.

- no need for a HD Patcher
- even exchange "one" simple texture on the "fly"

so my opinion is, dont waste to much time for textues, this can be done by the comunity easily....better spend time for the hard coding ;-)

I'm voting for the Ancient Pack.

It's gorgeous and different enough from Minecraft so newcomers may have less chances to call this a ripoff instead of an alternative.

Regarding the license question, anything that goes into default will have to be CC BY-SA. Almost MC and Gridtoon are, Cisoun already agreed to it for the win32 builds (I think), and hmmm's pack has to be since it's derived from the default pack. I don't really know about the others. But this is OT in this thread :)
