Blocking out lighting

For a half block how would block out lighting?

Lighting is calculated per node (1m x 1m x 1m), so it is not possible to stop the light.
How would you realize that half node? They're always taking the same space, so using a nodebox will not help you.

How about raytracing to make dynamic lightmaps?
