I can probably do that on a new item in infinite_chest mod. Or were you thinking something a little smaller than infinite?

Just a normal locked chest with a share button. Or course it would be good on your infinite mod.

Idea: Compass

Just small compass in right upper corner of window.

North when yaw is equal to 0 and 360.

That's it.
Nope

Thats not a mod in lua, it has to be done in c++.

Make a node with a compass texture, place it on the ground ---> compass (I made this for myself some time ago).

What's the point about a compass showing north in minetest? Press F5.
The compass would be useful if it directs to your spawning point (hopefully your crafted bed -> http://minetest.net/forum/viewtopic.php?pid=44864#p44864 ^^ )

Sometimes a graphical indication of which way you're looking makes more sense than numbers, even if they are degrees. If something says you're facing at 200 degrees, how do you know which way that really is? But if you see a compass needle or some equivalent pointing that direction, then you know right away. +1 for showing which way to the map's spawn, btw.

Also bear in mind that, in the absence of the numbers, there's another way to tell - look at the sun or moon. It rises east, sets west, so if you observe its movement for a moment, you can figure out which way is which. Good old celestial navigation :-)

Nodes dont move so the compas would never move.

I guess it can at least tell you which way is x+/x-/z+/z-

As its not possible to have a real compass that easy, because the images and shapes are once read on load, we could have a "compass" by "throwing" leaves in the air and they are "blown" by the "wind" directing to the spawn-point until they reach ground. (And the leaves aren't completely useless.)

Yes. We could have like a gauge were if your completely invisible (say in a shadow) it would stay at 1 (1 would mean your completely invisible) and if you were bright it would stay at 3 (3 would mean your completely visible)

Dark fields behind upper-left corner debug/chat area and behind sign messages.

During daytime or when standing in front of a light colored area, the text from the sign messages is hard to see. The upper-left corner debug/chat area info is also hard to see during the daytime. The chat and commands can be done in the drop-down F10 console but the coordinates and seed info get covered up by the console.

Pilzadam has a request, somewhere in the forums, for another onscreen display of the FPS and ping time in fullscreen mode. These too would benefit from a dark field behind them.

A little extra info for those who may not be aware of the ability to change the F10 console's settings:
The F10 console's color and transparency already can be controlled by settings in the minetest.conf file. (I prefer a translucent, dark, blue-grey tint but you can change it to whatever opaque/transparency, "console_alpha", and color, "console_color", you like.)

Your phone or window isn't wide enough to display the code box. If it's a phone, try rotating it to landscape mode.
Code: Select all
# This is the screen that drops down when you press F10
# In-game chat console background color (R,G,B - a mix of Red, Green, Blue, between 0 and 255)
console_color = (0,0,50)
# In-game chat console background alpha (opaqueness, between 0 and 255)
console_alpha = 150

@LazyJ, +1 for that idea

that cant be done in a mod, you should post these ideas to the Feature Discussion and hopefully someone will implement them in c++

That sounds like a really nice (and not to minecraft-like) solution to me.
