Giving away votes

by Krock » Sat Feb 08, 2014 12:37

Hello,

Everybody can give away 1 vote how the world is:
- Neatly
- Pretty
- Fast (for servers)
- Motivation to build something
- Good and useful nodes (ignoring defaults)
- High FPS rate (everybody wants to play so fast as possible, even those with older computers)

Every of those points can get from 1 (bad) up to 5 (wow!) stars.
And after voting, get the stars calculated with the already given votes.
In the server list, it could be possible to sort by the total stars, which a world got.
This way, players can see easily, which world is the king of all and which one is "not really good".

No idea if this already god suggested serval times, well, here's a poll:

Are you talking about servers?

I don't think the criteria mentioned are particulary helpful. FPS rate depends too much on the graphics capabilities of the client or is influenced by bugs in particular versions of MT.

When choosing a server, most players seem to be drawn to servers which already hold a bunch of players. Nothing attrackts players more than other players.

My personal criteria for a good server are something like this:
- PvP only when both sides agree (or disabled at all or forbidden by rules)
I want to build and not be distracted by players who want to play something else.
- Reliability/durability. At least some hope that the map will be there tomorrow is needed. And the day after tomorrow. If it is ever taken off (after years), it ought to be made available for download. Regular map-wipes are a no-go.
- Good protection system. The areas mod is very fine; for small servers, the protector mod might do as well. If there's excellent moderation, it might even work without any protection system at all. Some servers manage that.
- Rollback has to be present in some way to undo the work of griefers.
- Fire has to be disabled. Too many accidents happened and happen.
- At least some good, high quality buildings around. Else I might still build a small house to motivate others, but most likely not more.
- Presence of known good builders is a plus.
- Presence of friendly players is a plus.
- Anything that hinders building or ressource gathering (i.e. that landclaim/landrush mod) is a big minus.
- 1x1 pillars in the landscape (or around spawn) are a minus.
- bones are a minus.
- bags are welcomed.
- Not too high lag is also required to a degre. If lag exceeds a certain point, doing anything besides chatting becomes impossible.
- Stairsplus/moreblocks is a definite plus.
- Homedecor is very welcomed but not absolutely necessary as long as there are alternatives.
- My replacer mod ought to be present (makes building with said stairsplus nodes much easier).
- A good, clean spawn with nice buildings around (no bones, no 1x1 pillars, no ugly cobble/wood boxes) gives a positive first impression of the server.
- /spawn and some form of home command ought to exist.
- New mods/blocks with intresting textures are also a plus.
- Chat doesn't have to be on a child-friendly level, but even adults prefer a friendly atmoshpere over excessive swearing etc.
A list of my mods can be found here.

Well, generally about worlds, and how they're made.

Sokomine, you have very good points for suggestions and corrections to make a world better, alot of them would affect the whole view. That is my topic about, about how a world is - if it motivates, or not - if palyers like to play on it or not. And that in a voting system. But as far I know of the MT-system, would it be too easy to manipulate them :/

I think a voting system would be great. Maybe on a webpage instead? There could be a separate webpage with the servers on the public list there. You could vote on the server and maybe more complex things could be added like commenting and server info set by the owner. Also you could maybe vote on specific things like how friendly the community was and what the buildings were like. This could give people an idea about the server before they even join.
In strong agreement with Sokomine, these are my must-have's for a good server and most of them are the points I'd hope people think of my server too. :)
