Why was the dye mod added if there is no way to get dyes and there was nothing to do with them (there was no way to get wool when dyes were added)? Also, the textures are the same for every color (except for the color) and they only have 2 colors each. We should add:
A way to get dyes (maybe a dye base that you craft with different materials to get different colors)
More stuff to do with them
more detailed dye textures
Different dye textures depending on whether you got the dye directly from the material or mixed different dyes to get it

That has puzzled me too, but the latest dev version seems to include a flowers mod from which the dyes can be crafted, also i believe a way to get wool or 'cotton' wool crafted from cotton is coming too as default.

Aside from the other stuff it comes with, flowers_plus (vis a vis plantlife modpack) adds cotton plants to the default spawning mechanism, and has recipes to get raw cotton wads and to derive white wool blocks from those.
Also, Unified Dyes mod now uses the default dye mod as its starting point.
