Hello everybody ,
I think adding ambient background music could be very cool to immersion of the game and more epic ness !
I found a lot of cool song , but lot of these were copyrighted ...
However I found a website with royalty free music , which have very good song In my opinion to be used in the game ( particularly Rain on Lake Erie ), The website is called :
http://www.purple-planet.com/Voila !
What do you think about this ?

I've got a gigabyte of music and an UKW radio - So I don't need any ingame music :)

I don't think music should be played by default. If there is main menu music, it should be included with the current subgame.

Assuming people like the music. If they don't then they may hate the game. I think a compromise would be music for certain events and then have it dissipate. For example, when encountering a monster, "encounter" music could play until you kill the monster or are away from it.
Or danger music when low on health to drive up the tension...

Or simply possibility to dissable music via option :)
Seriously why people loved minecraft ? It was particularly because of the beautiful song !
( of course after , you can remove the music from being played by a simple option configuration)
After , if you think this thing should be done as a mod like immersion , you have the truth , but , The problem is the server load the song too , so it was really inefficient ,
The solution could be something in lua code that you said certain code must be only client sided for example ... It will take advantage of a bunch of mod I think...
