Wheat "seed"

Hi, this is my first post here.

Sorry if this has been discussed before but I recently started playing Minetest (love it btw) and I noticed something rather odd. Now I am studying an agronomic degree so maybe that's why I notice this but what should be wheat, or wheat corn, is called "wheat seed." And what should be called straw is called "wheat."

In the real world the seed of the plant is ground into flour which is used to make food such as bread but some seed can also be saved for re-sowing. The straw is used either for animal bedding/feed or to make thatch, like with thatched roof houses.

I guess my request is thus:
"wheat seed" > "wheat" which is then either crafter into flour or re-sown.
"wheat" > "straw"
And then it would be nice to craft the straw into thatch.

I don't know how it got like this in the first place but it seems utterly odd.

I just realised you can currently craft "wheat" into "straw" which seems even more confusing. I'm guessing it's meant to mean a bale of straw, or "straw bale"?

BTW, I know it's a game and not real life but this... troubles me.

It's just one of those stupid quirks that got carried over from Minecraft. Much like tree punching, or diamond tools.

Use my cottages mod. It doesn't help much with the wheat seeds, but at least you can put the corn in/onto a threshing floor, hit it with a stick to get layers of straw and more wheat seeds, and subsequently grind the wheat seeds in a mill to flour.
