scredriver enhancement

by firefox » Fri Jul 10, 2015 06:34

the screwdriver is a great tool and great improvements were made on it.

i remember that in the old times, the screwdriver used left-click and sneak+left-click to rotate blocks.
while sneak+left-click changed the "mode" of the screwdriver so that it would rotate a different axis.
this was then changed to left-click and right-click for horizontal and vertical rotation.
now it is much easier to use it.

but the rotation always follows a set cycle. if the rotation that you want to have is at the end of the cycle, you have to use the screwdriver 5 times over. not a big problem for some decorative stair rotating, but it becomes a big problem when you want to decorate a wall with floor tiles or slabs and have to rotate each tile 5 times and the wall has ~100 blocks.
it consumed 4 screwdrivers to finish it and was very annoying.

my suggestion is to add a sneak+left-click and sneak+right-click function to the screwdriver that rotates blocks in the opposite direction.
so if the normal rotation cycles clockwise through all the possibilities, then the sneak+click rotation should cycle counter-clockwise.
this way, if i had to rotate a block 5 times, i could use the sneak-rotate and only need to rotate it once.
this would make large rotation projects easier and less screwdriver-consuming.

is it possible to add that feature?

An easy way to reach what you want would be just to use this mod: place a node and rotate it the way you want it, then replace all other nodes. That old "screwdriver-mode" stuff was super annoying, esspecially if you had to switch it a lot - I'm glad that we have a better one now. :)

Using sneak for the screwdriver was annoying when using fly.
If anything I think that the uses could be increased but I don't think it's a big deal.

I've got that same problem with my replacer mod: Storing a new pattern requires shift+rightclick - which is difficult when flying. The normal keys are already used up. Maybe the middle mouse button could be an option...

We need a new key. One that mods like these can use.

Rebindable keys would have you covered. Would be a total shame if mods conflicted over certain keys, possibly leaving a debug.txt line with which mods conflict over that keybind.

Or having rebindable keys, like the current ones would make things easy.

How about left clicking on a degrotate plant, holding LMB and rotate it by just moving the mouse circular around the middle of the plant?

l think it would need a spade tool, imagine rotating a bush using a screwdriver in real life.
