Suggestions for next build

I love minetest so much and i play it 3 times a day but i'd like to see these features in future version:

Ability to mine a redstone (red color please) and craft a switches,pressure plates and sticky pistons;
Ability to change player look without 3rd party mods (to get MT as close as MC needs a lot of mods and that slows down game);
We need explosive creepers (for gunpowder);
Add creatures,mobs, creepers and animals without mods;
Ability to take a feather from chicken (bows and arrows);
Ability to find a flint;
Torches textures and overall textures need better quality;
We need different types of wood;
Ability to craft a fence (not sure does it exist though);
Hungermeter maybe ?

That's all i want in next version. Too much mods slows down my game so i have 3 mods only.

When you say 'the next version', you mean of minetest_game ? It's not developed anymore, everyone uses mods instead.

Otherwise, what do you mean by 'too much mods slows down my game' ? The framerate of the game shouldn't drop significantly every time you add a mod, unless they're very resource-intensive.

Just a couple of points:
1.
Silwncer wrote:Too much mods slows down my game

All content added is done by mods. There should not be any difference between mods inside the game, and mods you install and enable. However, mods included with Minetest Game are more likely to run more smoothly, because it is meant to be simple, and run on (almost) all computers Minetest supports.
tl;dr Adding the features that you want to Minetest Game will make it just as laggy as installing separate mods.

2.
PoignardAzur wrote:When you say 'the next version', you mean of minetest_game ? It's not developed anymore, everyone uses mods instead.

Firstly, it's Minetest Game now, not minetest_game
Secondly, if you say it's not developed any more, could you explain what these commits are for? https://github.com/minetest/minetest_ga ... its/master ;) Not many major features are added, but it is developed still!
(Edit: Ninja'd!)

3. Not everyone wants a Minecraft clone...

mods don't slow the game. only plantlife does cause some lag, because it runs a lot of scripts all over the map.
every other mod that adds extra contents only adds items and reciepes. this only increases the loading time, because there are more images, but usually you won't notice the 2 extra seconds it takes.

redstone is minecraft content, so we cannot use it 1:1.
mesecons adds all the redstone stuff from minecraft (and more) in yellow form, made from minetest exclusive mese.

changing player looks is easy. the easiest mod is player_textures.

creepers: again - minecraft copyright, but there is a creeper mod for minetest too. it works together with mobs redo, which has sheep and cows and chickens and bees. more animals can be found in the animals mod expansion.

bows and arrows are in the throwing mod.

flint is in the fake_fire mod, included in homedecor.

textures: there are various texturepacks, some of them were ported from minecraft.
you can copy everything you want into a new folder and use that as your own custom texture pack.
i use the torches from the john smith texture pack.

different wood types are in development. currently we have 3, and soon it will be 4 and they will be enabled by deafult.
or you can use one of the many mapgen mods for the mgv5 and 7 mapgen.

fences already exist.

hunger meter is in the better_hud mod.

minetest is not a game, but an engine to play games.
you can customize all content to create the game that you want.
the standard minetest_game is just a simple basis to expand with mods.
you can create realistic, sci-fi or fantasy games this way.

i like medieval fantasy stuff, so i use the ethereal mapgen (by TenPlus1) and all other mods made by TenPlus1.
they are made to be used together and almost everything you want.
there is even an ambience mode for ethereal worlds. it adds bird sounds and much more.

modiying mods is rather easy. the code for crafting reeciepes or node registrations is very simple and easy to use.
if you made an awesome combination, you can share it with others by publishing it as a subgame.
Lord of the Test is such a subgame. it looks just like middle-earth and has a lot Lord of the Rings stuff.
it is still in development, but already playable.

I see your point Silwncer. But luckly, Minetest isn't a Minecraft rip-off, so, it's most likely that those thing are not going to be added.
About the other 2 points that are not Minecraft related, yeah, that will be good, but I actually like torches like they area :P There was even a poll to put the old torches again

Technic can slow the game some. It has been optimized but I remember trying to play with it when I first started minetest around a couple of years ago and it slowed my system horribly. Of course it has so many other mods it depends on that it could have been a combination of any/all of them. I just finally had to stop playing with it because it killed my slow computer too much. I have since tried it again recently and it is running MUCH better on my slow system.

Talking about torches, yes I agree that they currently look terrible. Why, even the lazy cubic torches I see in some places give me more eye candy that minetest's default ones.

Eye candy isn't everything, mainly on a game that has a big 0 as it's first version number :P
I think we can wait a lot before any kind of graphic update.

the 0 has absolutely no meaning as to how finished a game is.

Personally I'd focus on making the engine as stable as possible before working on anything else... If adding or changing features of the game benefits stability though than I'm all for it...

I would like the memory leak to be fixed. I cannot run a server for more than a few hours without it crashing due to bad allocation errors, and this is on four different builds of 4.12.

agreed, at times Xanadu crashes every few minutes and I cant go back to 0.4.10 because all of the mods have been changed to work with 0.4.12's new routines, commands and nodes...

About the graphics: You misunderstood me, I just said that the lazy, cubic, and unanimated and drably textured (Obviously not graphic candy) torches found in some places look better that the default ones.

Silwncer wrote:Ability to mine a redstone (red color please) and craft a switches,pressure plates and sticky pistons;

There is a mod for that, its called mesecons, adding mesecons would be better than copying redstone.

Silwncer wrote:Ability to change player look without 3rd party mods (to get MT as close as MC needs a lot of mods and that slows down game);

If skins were added, something more like MCPE's skin system would work since minetest doesn't have accounts on the main website that link up to minetest.

Silwncer wrote:We need explosive creepers (for gunpowder);

Seriously? we can just craft gunpowder.

Silwncer wrote:Add creatures,mobs, creepers and animals without mods;

Good idea, but no creepers.

Silwncer wrote:Ability to take a feather from chicken (bows and arrows);

Meh, depends on if we add chickens, or any birds.

Again, do you just want a minecraft copy?

Pretty sure they added fences.

Silwncer wrote:Hungermeter maybe ?

Everything in this list is from minecraft.

James is more than correct. I believe minetests goal is not to be a minecraft clone which is the discussion of many topics. Yes somethings have been replicated here in minetest but if your going to suggest something can we try to stick to original ideas? Its getting kinda old with all the constant asks for minecraft items.
Indeed this is a free alternative that can replace minecraft for people who cant afford it but my main question is why people keep coming here and want/expect minecraft and then complain and try to get the game turning into a exact replica of minecraft. People need to remember minetest is its own game and should stay that way.

A light control and font and a horse would be very nice! and maybe some mobs that do what Minecraft mobs do, all the mods that I have looked at in Minetest don't work or they don't look or seem real

Zombies and ghosts are real? Mobs aren't meant to be realistic, unless there real animals, ans even then.

I would like a new node definition.
selection_box_alpha = 1

If it is one then the selection box if shown and if set to 0 then it has full transparency.

I would like better liquid visuals, there are some ideas that I have already come up with, that if they work may make water/fluids in general look much better.

i want a 3D first person hand, kinda like Minecraft but better, in minecraft when holding items, they float in FP. something like a hand holding the items in Minetest would be cool.
