Why not add more fences for every kind of wood?

Okay the crafting recipies... – But I don't think that this should be a real problem!
We could use the ones from MC (Maybe the stick is on the sides and the wood in the middle).

the Ethereal mod uses a similar recipe for fences and gates of all trees.
in total there are about 10 of them.

but for default minetest, it would be cool to have normal, jungle, pine and acacia fences.
(since they are all mgv7 now.)

I threw together a mod to do this. Let me know if there are any problems.

The devs are considering this, it might happen.

Diffrent fences would improve the game. Both RealTest and Ethereal come with additional wood types including fences. It looks a lot better than ordinary fences combined with wood of another type. Maybe gates ought to be considered as well. But don't take the MC shape - it doesn't look good and looks far too slim for a gate.
My xconnected mod might also be of intrest for those who want fences like xfences.

I like this idea alot but the recipe is kinda overkill.
A default fence only takes 6 sticks (actually only 3);
A block of wood gives you 4 sticks.

2 sticks and a block of the appropriate wood seems more reasonable



unless you have to have the recipe look like a fence
then you also need up the amount of fences rendered from the crafting.

Yes! This would be an awesome improvement. Maybe there can be different strengths of wood. And wood planks/tree too.

as far as l know an additional stick on the plank is only useful for gates

Fences are too cheap in my opinion. Six sticks should only return one fence, changing the recipe may result in Mod conflicts.
I agree with this idea to add more fences but then it would be nice to have them with a different compound (between the one fence and the other), such as an X-formed connecting element, or just one straight bar.

Apparently this feature is not popular among the developers of Minetest Game. You should be prepared to deal with the fact that it will not get merged even though it seems to be highly requested.
(You can see the comments here in the pull-request I sent; I chose to stick with the recipe proposed by LNJ initially)

In Pixture, I have fences with different types of wood.

The problem is, fences of different types will also join to each other, and looks ugly.

It's in Minetest NeXt (by BlockMen) so go and update!! :D

i like the fence recipie we already have, i also like minetest's originality, wich is why i dont think we should go off and copy minecraft's fence recipie
