More lava and water in caves

Is this only me or in mapgen v7 (and others) there's little chance of encountering water and lava in caves, while there is some gravel hazard present, 99% of the time you are safe.

Why not generate much more lava and water to add more fun! Obvious downside is easier lava grief, but that could be managed by protectors.

Or lava chance depends on height (how deep you are)? I was testing minetest from Git and I've encountered few water caves but no lava ones to -200.

Another good thing to increase underground danger is add mobs that spawn in dark areas.

That is obvious but mobs are not stable enough yet iirc. And someone is developing it in C already (much faster).

Caves, as they stand right now, just need more hazards in general. Long drops or a reason to fear the dark or anything.

In mgv5 and mgv7 lava is only in caves below y = -256, in mgv6 lava caves are all altitudes.

the new mg7 makes the caves more like fissures and underground canyons.
they can be small or very large and if you don't watch your step, you will fall up to 100 nodes down.

sometimes that happens to mobs too. one time 2 oerkkis fell on my head.

For what it's worth, the goal of my Beware the Dark mod is exactly that: to add a reason to fear the dark without mobs. It may fall a bit short of that, though, since it's only concerned with darkness where you're standing, and not the other, unlit end of the cave.
