First, Minetest official site is at http://www.minetest.net/ . Seems like you saw old non-official site maintaned by other people.
"Dynamic lightning" there means if you are in a cave then it'll be dark until you place some light source, a torch for example. That text already removed in new Minetest page.
Yes, it was called Minetest-c55 because the founder of this game is c55.
