Hi
I think there should be an extra download option an minetest mainpage to download with most used mods included.
Because beginners thinks that minetest does not have much functions, mobs or nodes at first install and delete game immediately.

you don't need a mod db, you can just package in the installer. It's perfectly possible and easy

Well... Couldn't that justly make it heavy, also, i think it's better to do some kind of "DLC" with working mods choosed by community, that you justly need to say where is the minetest.exe, and it will extract the mods in the mods folder.

The majority of mods weigh no more than a photo

Hmm, I wonder if this calls for something like Debian's "
popcon"? The engine could ask on first launch (or if the setting is missing from minetest.conf) whether they're OK with the list of mods they're using being anonymously reported. If they agree, a list of mods they have installed as well as a list of what mods they have enabled in their worlds would be sent to a central server. These could then be counted to determine which, say, 5 mods are most popular and include them with the game.

Just a question
Does anybody exist who dont use 3D armor, wield view, intllib, mobs... ?
So why not to include in default installer as an option or extra Download link with them inside ?
