But I do. Lightwave doesn't try to throw everything in my face all at once. Plus Lightwave is an 8.78 mb install, whereas Blender is a 138. mb install.

I mean, you do stuff in lightwave, then export to format blender understands and export with blender to .x or .blend or whatever needed format.
