I think it should be an option to choos borderless windowed mode as a graphic option additional to fullscreen

It is, though it not easy to find. Assuming that you have a new-ish version of MT, go to the setting Tab > Advanced Settings > Client > Graphics >In Game > Advanced > Full Screen. Hopefully rubenwardy's PR allowing you to search the setting gets merged or has been merged before 0.4.15 release, it'd be really useful :P
BTW, if you have dual monitors, when MT is in full screen mode only one monitor can be used: the one with MT. And for me anyways, it's a bit distorted.

Borderless mode is not the same as fullscreen.
