+1 AFAIK models are handled pretty much the same as textures, in that they are both sent from the server to the client, so I am sure it's technically possible to override them. Whether or not the devs would see any value in this feature is another matter.

If there were a way to override models, then Minetest could have Recourse Packs! :D
