I think there should be a new world creator that can control the size of biomes, You can have large plains or no plains at all, you can control ocean and river size and the amount of rivers on the map, perhaps even have an option for the map to be a large island.

Yes this wuld be nice

You can change settings in the mapgens
But I realize that is mostly not a completely easy "user end" ability
But, I also know it would be quite some work to create such tool with a user friendly gui which interacts with mapgens to make such changes.
Someone had mentioned the same idea of a gui with sliders, etc.. And yeh, it would be pretty cool to have.
It's just a matter of if or when someone with the right skills creates one.
I would not hold my breath : )
