Is minetest restricted to one code type?

by Chinchow » Tue Nov 06, 2012 00:32

Is it possible that minetest could be written in more than one script or is this Impossible for example writing some parts in C++ and some in Java script the core code that is.

I ask this because I think minetest has a lot of potential but this may just be because minecraft has been worked on for longer but it has the ability to have more features not saying minecraft is better but I think minetest could be great with more features like 3D players and I know MirceaKitsune is working on this but as you can see we need more It is good as it is but It just needs those last features to give it that kick.

Minetest is actually quite flexible. It is both a game, an engine, and a protocol. One can add compatibility to another open source project

Minecraft is better because of Notch (a professional coder who worked also on Wurm online) and Mojang (a full time coding company). Minetest is more like an hobby project, with a little community compared to Minecraft.

But it's open, so it's only a matter of time to wait for a better Minetest.

When you say "better", I hope you mean by overall quality.

Writing parts of this game in Java will do nothing to help make it more like minecraft... well except to make minetest slower, but im not sure thats something we wish to replicate at this time :-/

But LUA scripts are now Java like - mister Ahola didn't use LuaJIT library - it can give about 30-50 % performance more (with big mod set). I know it because my LG P500 has patch which enables JIT on old 2.2 ROM - difference is AMAZING!

p.s. Dear Perttu, if you read it, please think about LuaJIT implementation in minetest!
Sorry for my bad English, please help me learn it - correct my worst mistakes :)

I was not talking about making it more like minecraft I want it to be as different as possible while still keeping the block style
