FOSS gamedev and creative worlds

i don't know what it is called but i tried out blockplanet aka minetest++ and i like a feture they had. The hud had a hunger bar and a drowning bar. I dont mean add hunger or drowning but more the point of having mods be able to add graphics to the HUD.

It would be very fun if it was possible, but it was quite a lot of work just to be able to add a second bar (even positioning it so that it looked nice was a lot of work).

There'd have to be some helpers, because if not, mods could completely screw up an HUD... honestly, I know that from experience :/
