Having fully skinable avatars with armour would be a great help, also it would be very handy if the heads would move depending on camera viewing angles as well, that way we know what a person is looking at and hopefuly which item they are holding in their hands at the time...

/sigh

We're talking about Minetest-engine, or are we talking about Minetest-game? Minetest is bigger than just being a Mine-crack clone- it's a flexible engine that can be used to make a variety of games.*

But, let's say we're talking about adding Minecraft features into Minetest. An armo(u)r mod exists, but hasn't been merged into minetest-game. Reason? It's pretty useless in singleplayer, and server admins can easily add it if they want.

Character previews/third person has been discussed to death. The current consensus is "Cool feature, but I'm not going out of my way to make it happen".

Are we talking about skins? Skins with a limited preview functionality have been created as a mod. Again, it wasn't added to minetest-game because it has no purpose in singleplayer.

tl;dr:
Ain't happening soon.

* Yes, you can easily make a First Person Shooter/Arena game.

That is wonderful news. I have been interested in that feature for some time.

3D_armor by stu includes wieldview- so you can see what the others are wielding. I can't play LAN games without it anymore; after getting used to seeing that sword coming, I get nervous when I can't see what others are wielding.

tinoesroho: I was more interested in other players being able to see YOUR avatar wearing whichever armour you have enabled, holding whichever item you have selected and seeing your head move up & down to show looking direction...

3d_armor only works in multiplayer; you won't see the difference if you're playing alone. In multiplayer, you can see what they're wearing, what they wield, and roughly where they look.
