Suggestion: Multiple texture packs

Minecraft (MC) is going to have this feature and I think Minetest (MT) should, too.

Basically, you are alowed to choose multiple resources/assets for the game. For now, I'll just talk about texturepacks (TP), not sounds and whatnot.

You can select multiple TPs, instead of sticking to one. Let's say you are using a TP that only supports vanilla items and blocks. But you install a mod that has textures that differ greatly from the resolution or style of the TP you are using. So, you have to look for another TP that has textures for it, but then what do you do?

With MC, you have to merge the TPs yourself. But with this new feature, you can simply tick off both texture packs in the game, and the textures that the 1st TP doesn't have, the 2nd provides. You can also reorder them to choose which TP has priority if there are conflicts.

Thanks for reading!

Jack.

You can do this in MT pretty easy. Grab all textures from the TP with the lowest priority, and put them in a folder. Then get the textures of the TP with the higher priority, put them in the same folder and tell your OS to override conflicting files. Done.

I think he means without having to dig into the folders, more so a section system to pick out the textures the player wants while keeping them in the respective folder.

Yes the game does it for you. The whole point is to make it easier. Like how minetest got texture pack selection after solo many months of being asked. It was to make choosing texture packs easier.
