I think it would be a great thing
if the user could change his skin on the server himself by using a mod like u_skins,
in a way that the server is remembering and using the skin automatically at the next login.
Now I have to rechange my Skin after every Login anew.
The Server could save the Skin in the players Folder under the Username so the mod doesn´t need to know any Username.

zeg's skin mod, u_skins and TenPlus1's new skins have those features.
The mod u_skins stores it in one single file:

on the server?
at least until I read till now only the Administrator can do that by put the file in the textures Folder.

All images MUST be added server-side and no user can do that, so you would have to ask the server admin to add your skin and the server would have to be restarted for it to take effect...

I agree.
The player's skin should be uploaded to the server when they join, and deleted when they disconnect. The skin would be put in a special folder, of course, and named something like "skin.png"
