Will not shut down!!!

by Azuna » Thu Jan 09, 2014 19:37

Okay, whenever i make a game now, its extremely laggy, even though no one else is on the computer. Whenever i shut down the game, it says "shutting down.." like it normally does, but it wont shut down! What do i do?

I think you have to leave the server when it says that, but don't take my word for fact, I'm not sure...
Working on a sub-game; mostly based texture packs, adventure and soon chemistry...

Please post the following:

1. Your OS
2. Your PC specs: Processor name, clock speed, RAM and GPU.
3. The version of minetest you're using
4. debug.txt, located in minetest/bin

I've been away from regularly testing new builds. This problem was last seen around 0.4.8 - dev. If your version is less than 0.4.9, please upgrade.
7:42 PM - Bauglio: I think if you go to staples you could steal firmware from a fax machine that would run better than win10 does on any platform
7:42 PM - Bauglio: so fudge the stable build
7:43 PM - Bauglio: get the staple build

I think I got the same problem. I only use singleplayer mode, and sometimes (!) when leaving to the main menu or do "Quit program" I get stuck with message "shutting down...".
What happens always is that the "log window" remains open and willl not close. If I try to close manually, it reacts saying "INFO: event_handler(): Ctrl+C, Close Event, Logoff Event or Shutdown Event, shutting down.", but doesn't do so. Need to forcefully terminate (Windows "End now").
AFAIK everything is saved in any case, so that's not soo bad.
I'm pretty sure this problem was not present in 0.4.6, 0.4.7 and 0.4.8 (not 100% sure about 0.4.8), only in 0.4.9. I only used the official release versions.

My specs:
WinXP SP3
Intel Celeron 2,8 GHz
1.5 GB RAM
ATI Radeon 4800 Series (OpenGL 3.3)
Minetest 0.4.9 (see above, previos versions were ok with that)

Debug.txt only contains this:
13:53:05: ERROR[main]: Empty rollback log
Font size: 8 17
13:53:47: INFO: event_handler(): Ctrl+C, Close Event, Logoff Event or Shutdown Event, shutting down.

"Empty rollback log" does not appear always. If it appears, then on startup. I'm a bit surprised that this is all which is contained in the log file - there used to be more, but I even experimented with setting debug_log_level to 0, 1 and 9 - makes no difference.

BTW: I sometimes also experience strange lags in singleplayer mode. I'm hacking away a number of blocks, and all of a sudden they all reappear, then one after the other disappers again, each after approx. 1 second. Looking at the log window in such a situation looks like somebody would type in the entries there (takes about a second for the line to get written...). Dunno if that's anything to do with the other phenomenon, but this is an effect I know ever since I play Minetest (I think 0.4.6 was my first version). Seems this only happens when I'm digging underground for a long time...

Hope these infos are helpful...

Exactly the same problem and system and version... use 0.4.8-dev if you don't like force closing the Minetest process ;)

EDIT: 333rd post, let's double this!!

I'm not modding and/or playing minetest anymore. All my mods were released under WTFPL. You can fix/modify them yourself. Don't ask me for support. Thanks.

I have got exactly the same problem... it seems linked with a CPU hotup.

Are you sure you have Minetest 0.4.12 (or newer)?

I use to have this problem but have not had it I a while. 0.4.12 has been working great.
