Little help for a newb

I am new and still learning . Never had MC. I started a new server in Minimal so i could find everything and have to build everything. Not just start off with everything. For some reason instead of giving me wood planks for the trees it gives me just wood. I am trying to build some doors, a hoe, a boat(i have the boat mod) and it will not let me build this stuff. When i go to single player and just do creative it lets me. Am i doing something wrong? I am trying to read all the stuff but some of it is very confusing. Thanks for any help.

In Minimal, you really can't do much, as it's just the development test "game". You need the *real* game content.

* Download the minetest_game distribution: https://github.com/minetest/minetest_game/archive/master.zip
* Unzip the file.
* Rename the resultant folder from "minetest_game-master" to just "minetest_game".
* Copy the resultant folder to your Minetest games directory. They'll be something similar to (but not necessarily exactly) one of these:
on Linux: /usr/local/share/minetest/games OR ~/.minetest/games
on Windows: C:\Documents and Settings\YOURNAME\minetest-0.4.9\games
* Start the program and create a new world, using "Minetest" as the game.

You can do this general procedure for any of the other sub-games that are found on these forums, e.g. Nodetopia, Nostalgia, my game, etc.

Minetest-minimal uses another default mod than minetest-game.

Activating creative on your server should also let you build boats and doors, while deactivating creative in singleplayer would prevent you from building boats and doors.

To build (craft) something like a boat, without creative, you need to put the right ingredients in the crafting grid. You need to follow a crafting recipe. The boat mod uses a crafting recipe based on the default mod from minetest-game. It doesn't recognize the wooden planks from the default mod of the minetest-minimal.

When you put creative on you can take the craft result (the boat) from the creative inventory, without using the crafting grid.


Summary:
- The results of the crafts from additional mods are ready to be used with creative on.
- Without creative, you cannot craft the results when the ingredients are not the same as desired by the additional mod (the mod desires the ingredients from one default, but gets those from another).

Thanks for the responses. I already have the Minetest as a choice. If i choose that one I still receive 8 pages of things. What i would like to do is start with nothing and find everything and craft it from the materials that i find. Is that a possibility or no matter what i am just going to start off with some of that stuff?

Vanessa I went to your creative server and i really liked the lay out of your inventory. Could you point me in the direction to find that .

I have been playing all day and figured out how to add some mods and texture pack. Thanks for that very nice texture pack by the way Vanessa. Is there any mods that are a must have that would enhance the game play?

I think vanessae is using Unified inventory mod on hers servers.
