Dropped items just disappear

by Wuzzy » Thu Sep 25, 2014 06:58

While I was working on the new generic tutorial for Minetest (viewtopic.php?f=9&t=10192), I wanted to place some items by dropping them. I work with Minetest 0.4.10.

To my knowledge it was Minetest’s default behaviour that dropped items stay at their place forever; they don’t just disappear. But now it seems those items I placed in Tutorial World just disappear after some time. I never directly witnessed the disappearing but they were gone when I came back after a longer time.

This is weird and differs from the behaviour I know from earlier versions. Has the item disappearing policy changed recently? ;) May there be any mod responsible for this? Or an obscure setting? Does anyone know what is going on here?

To be clear: I want to drop items but do not want them to disappear.

I think you can disable it if you put "item_entity_ttl = -1" in minetest.conf (Default is 900s ~15min)
But this is only on your pc. Not sure how you can disable that for other people in general.

World settings? Do worlds have a minetest.conf?

Or you could make a mod to set it in worldmods/ in the world folder.

Oh, so items do disappear by default now. Since when does Minetest have this behaviour?

Well, at least I know there can be subgame-wide settings at least, so I am using these now. It’s a minetest.conf file in the subgame directory. It would be really useful to have world-specific settings.

Thanks for the help. I report back when it doesn’t work. When I don’t come back in this thread, you can assume that it worked for me.
