fonts

by 12Me21 » Fri Apr 26, 2013 20:30

Why are the fonts in minetest so non-pixelated? everything else in minetest is pixelated, and that makes the already crappy fonts look even worse. (by crappy I mean that they look like they were meant to be bigger but were scaled down and have random partially transparent pixels.) the fonts should be pixilated like in minecraft (but they should look different, though.) Another problem is that the font image files are virtually impossible to edit because the letters are white and blend in with the white and light grey background on image editors.

Most image editors have an option to change the colors of the checkered background, so no, they aren't impossible to edit.
It would be good if someone documented the bitmap font format (or linked to a document that does so).

You can also directly use the TTF in Minetest, since Minetest has this feature built in.

This is not really about whether or not to use TTF fonts; it's about using pixelated fonts.

I notice that with some letters in caps are bigger or smaller then one another in minetest, we should have a bigger font with letters in caps that arent un-evenly sized.

You can use every TT font you can find in the internet, even if you dont have TTF support compiled in. So you just can search some pixelated fonts and use them if you want.

OK, I made my own font, and it works, but it looks blurry (like if you look at a pixelated image at a zoom level that is not a multiple of 100) and you cant change the font size to fix it.
