FOSS gamedev and creative worlds

I am using Ubuntu 14.04 64-bit trying to run a minetest server on it here is the command i use to start it and i get this error ./minetestserver
If anyone know how to fix this I am kinda a noob to minetest i had a server a long time ago but dont remember how to do it?

I'd suggest installing a system-wide(-DRUN_IN_PLACE=0) build and not running it as root.

I am not sure what you mean by a system-wide(-DRUN_IN_PLACE=0) but does anyone have a good tutorial? for installing it on a Linux vps?

Ok so i tried it again re installed it now i get when i try to start the server

I am using this tutorial http://dev.minetest.net/Compiling_Minetest
i also tried to start the server with # ./minetest
But i get

Irrlicht log: Error: Need running XServer to start Irrlicht Engine.
Irrlicht log: Could not open display, set DISPLAY variable
17:48:28: ERROR[main]: Could not initialize game engine.

Issue Solved got it to run it was something Stupid -.-
