Ugly Sky Boxes on World Gen

by LazerRay » Fri Feb 13, 2015 15:55

I have been recently getting huge skyboxes when I generate new worlds made up of one block based on the mods loaded. I never saw things like these in Minetest 4.10, only after updating to 4.11.

That sky box is made entirely out of Travelnets, and it just generated like that on it's own.

Known bug, it existed on VanessaE's servers too.
This bug was caused by L-Tree system generated structures in not generated area.
A soulation for this is to set the setting "max_block_generate_distance" to something higher than 2.
Use WorldEdit to erase that fail-block.

I did some testing with the mods I run, turns out the bug is related to More Trees having a bad reaction to Minetest 4.11, I will be mentioning this on the respective thread to help with better isolation of the bug.

My testing was basically wile using the same world seed:

1. Disable all mods and generate world, then check for "Fail Box"
2. Enable mods one-by-one and generate world, then check for "Fail Box", if its there move to the next test
3. Enable all mods but the one that triggered the "Fail Box" and generate world, do a final check to confirm its gone

(Lucky for me any time I used the same seed, most items stayed in the same general areas of the world, including the "Fail Boxes")
