it's been a plague of errors with 0.4.11 and 0.4.12 ... so much now that my old install 0.4.10 won't work All I get once the server loads is Access violation errors...



maybe my grief to try different build or is it some switch in Win7 that is the problem?

Is Minetest the only app giving you grief?
If Minetest 0410 no longer works on your system, where as previously it did;
it maybe an unrelated problem presenting when you try to use Minetest.

-have you had any recent hardware changes/updates?
you might want to try a system restore / or a driver rollback
-scan your registry with a registry cleaner/compactor/defragger
-scan for malware or viruses

you could also:
try running minetest exe "as administrator"
or try temporarily disable UAC
or maybe try XP compatibility mode.

Well these are just some thoughts from a novice;
I know you have probably already tried/dismissed all this stuff.

I have seen your name come up more than a couple of times in the IRC logs
so I know people are working behind the scenes to help you.

I hope you get it sorted out.

I am on WinXP and have tried all the updates posted by Krock,
yet the initial 0412 RC build is the best for me so far

Please can you use the latest stable or a dev version, and give us the dmp files?

So, I'll post some questions more and try to keep them informative and short:

Which render are you using? (OpenGL, Direct3D 9/8, ..)
-> If Direct3D, try OpenGL

How much free RAM do you have and how much is used by Minetest?
-> "bad allocation" errors are the usual signs for less free memory

Can Minetest access to its directory?
-> Move the game on your desktop and start it there without administrator privileges.

oddly it works when I go into fresh world with default setup... that is until I pick up sand, leaves or dirt - OR - try to go to Inventory then crash. I have 4 gigs of ram. .dmp has been sent to VanessaE via dropbox.

okay the .dmp pointed to video driver. reinstalled the video driver direct from Intel for my laptop and OS.

We're BACK!

Though I suspect that it wasn't taken into account that laptop video chips uses same memory as rest of the computer. Last time I sat out for a whole revision. before coming back. I'm running 64bit MSVC build. It's working for now.
