Hi,
I got a fresh installation of Ubuntu 16.04 on my HP Probook 6570b. With the one-liner-install from this forum i downloaded and compiled minetest latest version.

1. First start of minetest shows the game in a window that cannot be resized or moved. It just startet in the upper left corner with 800x600 and was fixed there. So I changed resolution to my display and set fullscreen. This is ok for now but i remember it was not always like this.

2. I created a new world with mapgen v6, creative mode and start the game. My inventory bar marker "scrolls" from the right to the left all the time, like someone scrolls the mousewheel all the time. Very strange, what's this?

3. Looking for my computer mouse, maybe it's got empty battery or something... what's this? When moving the whole laptop, i start moving in the game. This is really cool, but how can i stop this behaviour? I like to use my notebook standing on my knees, now every little movement of my legs will let me move in my minetest worlds :D

Better patent it, this may be a huge $$$ maker :D
I don't have an answer for you, but I find this "bug"? more like awesome feature, pretty dang cool!!!!, and had to comment on it.

You can see how the frame in the inventory bar scrolls all the time and moving the laptop will move the player in the world. I didn't even know that this notebook has a gyro sensor like a smartphone ...

I have a theory...

Can you go to Settings -> Advanced Settings -> Client -> Controls and mark the entry "Enable Joysticks" disabled?

I also had the same problem of the minetest window being stuck in the upper left corner (Also with no exit, minimise and maximise buttons), oddly enough this only happened with Calinou's "non-portable" build script. When I used daily build from the minetest.net download page or Calinou's "portable" build script , I didn't have this problem. (I'm also using Ubunutu 16.04)
BTW your gyro-sensor problem is pretty hilarious.

Joysticks are disabled, but problem is still there.

I started minetest 0.4.13 that I compiled in january under Kubuntu 14.04. The window has the same problem that it can't be resized or moved, but the gyro-move does not work here.

zak1975, so the problem with the gyro sensor remains, even after a restart of minetest and joysticks being disabled?

If yes, can you try an earlier engine commit, like commit 14ef2b445adcec770defe1abf83af9d22ccf39d8 ?

I don't know about the resize bug. Are you using unity?

Can you get supertuxkart and try whether the resize bug appears there too?

Can you give me a hint how to get an earlier commit? I just know "git clone https://...

I am using Unity. supertuxcart has this resize bug too - but not from the start. When I start it for the first time, it comes up with 1024x768. The window is not resizable, but movable. Then I go to settings and graphics. When I set another resolution, the window becomes unmovable, just like minetest 0.4.14.

Are you using anything such as emerald or compiz? This may be a result of system border/windows or titlebar settings?
I remember when using unity in the past, some apps open in the top left corner without a border and you have to grab them and pull them to free them of this feature? I'm trying to remember how to do it, but this annoyance I do remember about the unity de. I could be wrong...
This may be an issue, easily resolved on your distros forum

TumeniNodes, after installation of Ubuntu I installed the "CompizConfig Settings Manager" and changed the size of the Launcher Icons on the left with the ubuntu unity plugin. I didn't change any other value in this tool.
So I am not sure whether i am using compiz or not :/
How can I find out? My distro installation is mostly default.

Features such as compiz and emerald can come with their own quirks, (much like the issue you're having). I am definitely not an Ubuntu/ Unity DE expert though as I had only used it for a short time, it was not for me. That is why I suggest strongly to ask more on this at the Ubuntu forums because there you will 99.9% get the correct solution.
I would not wish to mention various remedies which may actually cause more issues.
Since you have the same issue with now 2 individual programs, it is safe to say the issues are not related to either Minetest, nor Supertuxcart..., the issue is in your settings somewhere, and Ubuntu forums will be your best bet to get it resolved (most likely a very simple fix) : )
