FOSS gamedev and creative worlds

As the title says, I can't find where to put the mods folder. I used Calinou's one-line portable build script on an Ubuntu 16.04. I also have the same problem on another laptop running Ubunutu 16.04 which I used the daily .deb builds from the download page to install minetest. Any help would be much appreciated.

If a run in place build. Just create a mods folder in the minetest folder created by git.
If not a run in place build. Create a mods folder in the hidden minetest folder in your home directory. /home/yourusername/.minetest/mods
