Missing Icons

by MisterBananas » Mon Apr 23, 2012 21:37

Image

Gets irritating having to cycle things through your hands to see what it is. Not sure why some the icons don't work as the associated .png files all seem to be there. Even a few texture files that I'm pretty sure have nothing to do with Minetest.

What I was wondering was: Would it be from missing texture files that I may have to whip up or would it be something more common with version 0.3 (specifically 0.3.1)? Might have put it down to aging problems of my computer if it wasn't for everything else working just fine.

Can't just go to 0.4 yet since I'm running it on Fedora 16, on a d600 laptop (2003). I'll try to manually update it some time tonight though when I get the patience.

is this happening when you just join a game? or when you minimize/unminimize the game....as it tends to happen (no clue why) and the only way i know of is to log out and log back in to fix it to where i can see again

if it isnt that then idk
I like to debate.

It's from start to finish, always. And it's always the same items which is why I was thinking maybe it was the image files being messed up.

Also confused as to why, when I looked into the folder for the textures, I saw Nyancat textures. Is that creepy thing actually in the game?

try downloading the latest version like stef to see if it fixes the problem

There are (or at least used to be) very, very rare NyanCat blocks underground. A head block spawns with a string of about 5 rainbow blocks behind it. The code in mapgen.cpp appears to be commented out in the latest version, however.

Downloaded the Windows version. Going to just use WinE for 0.4 for now. It's a pain trying to find how YUM placed all the files throughout the directories so the only thing I'm wondering is: Which file holds the map info? Like the stuff I've already built.

I've got two megastructures in progress, one almost complete, and I'd rather not have to start over again. If I have to decompile to copy/paste a section of the code I'll do it.

So if I just removed the the symbol designating comments from the beginning of the lines it'll be back in? (At least I'm guessing that's how it'd be, been too long since I've even looked at coding.)

I have similar problem with latest version. It works well on my AMD X6 with AMD 6770 VGA, but when I copy it to my laptop with Core 2 Duo + Intel VGA lava looks like door, cobble looks like water, proper image is shown just in hand... I've played all versions (since v0.3) on laptop just fine, I have problem with late versions...
Could anybody help?

Must be because 0.4 is unstable.

YOU MUST BE USING THE TEXTURE ATLAS:

Pop this into the .conf

Your phone or window isn't wide enough to display the code box. If it's a phone, try rotating it to landscape mode.
Code: Select all
enable_texture_atlas = false
This will make your icons return.

( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) ( ͡o ͜ʖ ͡o) [$ ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) $] ( ͡$ ͜ʖ ͡$) ヽ༼ຈل͜ຈ༽ノ

My image and media server is back online and is functioning as normal.

No, I have texture atlas disabled, see below, and it still looks like this:

Items should be:
Mese Pickaxe, Wooden Fence, Cobble, Sign, Stone, Dirt, Wooden Door, Torch
Dirt, Steel Axe, Tree, Chest, Cobble, Ladder, Sapling, Leaves
Cobble, Wood, Torch, Gravel, Sapling,
Water Bucket, Lump of coal and Lump of iron

Wrong icons are bold.

Here's a fix:
Open minetest.conf, add this:
Your phone or window isn't wide enough to display the code box. If it's a phone, try rotating it to landscape mode.
Code: Select all
screenW = 1280
screenH = 800
fullscreen = 1
fullscreen_bpp = 24

This will start the game in fullscreen instead, with a 1280*800 resolution. This can fix the invisible/bugged inventory cubes.

Nothing has changed. No fullscreen but windowed game with 1280x800 res... I already tried even 800x600, but only the size of window has changed.

Inventory icons are bugged...

I would add debug.txt but it is too long to put it here...

You can rename debug.txt to debugold.txt or something and create a new empty file debug.txt.

heh, okay, i am not that stupid, although i am not a programmer, PC's are my daily bread. One report is about 137kB and i am too lazy to upload it somewhere or split it here to more messages, because one post here is limited to 64kB...

You should really update your Minetest... you are using 0.4-20120326 (March 26 2012) while the latest is 0.4-20120606 (June 6 2012).

so I have to say, that version minetest-0.4.dev-20120606-48790c0-win32 didn't help at all. Some of inventory cubes are bad - leaves looks like lava etc...

Open minetest.conf and type
Your phone or window isn't wide enough to display the code box. If it's a phone, try rotating it to landscape mode.
Code: Select all
enable_texture_atlas = false

This should sort it out.

Already tried it from other posts suggestion.
-edit- I've tried all the suggestions I could find here, so I'm waiting patiently.

So the missing textures carries over to mods like moreblocks, if that helps anyone still wondering about this. Unfortunately, it makes the game difficult to play for me because I don't know what anything is at a glance. Slows down gameplay to a frustrating pace because I have to hold test samples of anything before I use it to make sure its the right block.

I don't like unstable software. Makes me nervous.

also I had a lot of trouble compiling it with Linux for some reason, so I don't want to install more and more versions all of the time.

What kind of troubles? Nowadays I always 'compile' the latests minetests through copy/paste from the readme.txt on the Github.

My personal experience is that the unstable versions of minetest are as stable as the stable ones. Also most current mods and servers are frequently updated to and/or depending on the newest (unstable) version of minetest.

Okay, I'll give it a try. Of course I don't have 12.04, so that could be part of it, I just don't know.

-edit- Oh yeah, no clue what I'm doing, thats why I use Stable. Because I can just use apt-get to install it.

I tried updating using apt-get install and it siad I had the newest, so the repository maintainer must only use Stable. Whats the package for daily builds (for natty) so I can add it?
